UNGA President Endorses Pakistan’s Call for Dialogue and Diplomacy as Path to Peace

New York:President of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), **Dennis Francis**, has endorsed Pakistan’s position that **dialogue and diplomacy are the only viable paths to lasting peace**. The statement came during a high-level meeting with a **Pakistani delegation led by former Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari** at the UN Headquarters in New York.
Bilawal Bhutto briefed the UNGA President on the **deteriorating security situation in South Asia** following the **April 2025 Pahalgam incident**, and expressed serious concerns over India’s actions in the region.
He emphasized that **sustainable peace in South Asia is not possible without a just and peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute**, in accordance with the **UN Charter** and **relevant Security Council resolutions**.
The former Foreign Minister also called on the **international community to facilitate the restoration of the Indus Waters Treaty** and to support the **initiation of a comprehensive dialogue between Pakistan and India**.
In response, the UNGA President appreciated **Pakistan’s continued engagement with the United Nations** and echoed Islamabad’s stance, affirming that **dialogue and diplomacy remain the only path to resolving international conflicts**. He also underlined the importance of **adherence to the UN Charter and international law**.
The meeting highlighted Pakistan’s ongoing diplomatic outreach to raise international awareness about regional tensions and to seek multilateral support for peace initiatives in South Asia.
