Third-Party Companies Reaping Financial Gains from Reko Diq Project While Ignoring Needs of Nokundi Residents: Nokundi Solidarity Committee

Nokundi: The spokesperson for the Nokundi Solidarity Committee has strongly criticized several third-party companies working under the banner of the Reko Diq project, accusing them of sidelining the welfare of the local population despite securing large contracts and substantial funding.
In a press release issued on Saturday, the spokesperson highlighted that companies such as GESCO, Chennai Bore, End Bore, and others are receiving multi-billion-rupee contracts through the Reko Diq initiative. However, they have failed to show any serious commitment to the social development or welfare of the people of Nokundi.
“These companies are not receiving funds merely for profit,” the spokesperson stated, “but also for the purpose of contributing to the region’s development, provision of basic amenities, and addressing local issues.” He stressed that it is the ethical, social, and professional responsibility of these companies to address urgent needs related to health, education, clean drinking water, local infrastructure, and employment.
The committee warned that if these companies continue to ignore the pressing issues faced by Nokundi’s residents and focus solely on financial gain, the local people and the committee reserve the right to launch democratic, constitutional, and public protests against them.
In conclusion, the press release urged relevant institutions, including the Reko Diq Mining Company (RDMC) and the provincial government, to hold these third-party contractors accountable and compel them to take immediate steps for the improvement of the region’s social sector. The spokesperson emphasized that local communities should not feel neglected and that the Reko Diq project must ultimately prove beneficial for the welfare and development of the area.
