Reference Against PTI Leader Omar Ayub Sent to Election Commission, Hearing Scheduled

Islamabad: A disqualification reference against Opposition Leader and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Omar Ayub has been forwarded to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and is now scheduled for hearing.
National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq signed and officially sent the reference to the ECP. The reference was initially filed by PML-N member Babar Nawaz, accusing Omar Ayub of concealing asset details in his financial declarations.
The petition calls for Omar Ayub’s disqualification under Articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution, citing failure to disclose foreign properties and investments.
According to the reference, Omar Ayub allegedly held an Iqama (residency permit) from the United Arab Emirates during 2019–2020 for investment purposes but did not declare it in his financial records. Additionally, the reference claims he did not disclose the financial gains or losses associated with the Iqama, nor his shares and investments in a Pakistani institution.
The Election Commission has scheduled the hearing for June 4 at 10:00 AM and has summoned Omar Ayub to appear before the panel.
The petitioner argues that a person facing such serious allegations is not fit to serve as a member of the National Assembly.
