Unprovoked Aggression by Neighboring Country a Grave Threat to Regional and Global Peace: FM Ishaq Dar

Islamabad: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar has strongly condemned the recent unprovoked military aggression by Pakistan’s eastern neighbor, calling it a serious threat to both regional and global peace and security.
Speaking at the signing ceremony of the International Organization for Mediation (IOMED), Dar criticized the neighboring country for ignoring international calls for restraint and de-escalation. He emphasized that the long-standing Jammu and Kashmir dispute remains the primary source of conflict in South Asia and must be resolved in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
“Strict adherence to the UN Charter, sincere implementation of Security Council resolutions, and commitment to international law are vital to ensuring peace, security, and global prosperity,” Dar said.
He warned that the dream of protecting future generations from the horrors of war appears increasingly distant. “From occupied Jammu and Kashmir to the Palestinian territories, prolonged conflicts and foreign occupation continue to threaten regional and international peace,” he added.
Dar also expressed concern over the rise of populism and ultra-nationalism, where unilateral actions and divisive rhetoric are taking precedence over dialogue and diplomacy. “Some actors are brazenly violating the principles of the UN Charter and international law, sacrificing global peace for narrow electoral gains and hegemonic ambitions,” he remarked.
Citing recent global crises, Dar highlighted the dangers of sidelining diplomacy, international law, and arbitration. He referenced the violation of agreements like the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty and breaches of international human rights norms, warning that such actions set dangerous precedents.
Representing Pakistan at the historic signing of the IOMED convention in Hong Kong—China’s Special Administrative Region—Dar congratulated China for hosting the event and hailed it as the beginning of a new era in international diplomacy and arbitration.
He noted Pakistan’s pride in being a founding member of IOMED and praised the selection of Hong Kong as the organization’s headquarters. “Hong Kong is a dynamic city that acts as a ‘super-connector’ and ‘super value-adder,’ bridging East and West,” Dar said.
The foreign minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to promoting peaceful dispute resolution through dialogue, diplomacy, and international cooperation.
