England Smash Records with 400-Run Total in ODI Against West Indies Without a Single Century

Edgbaston, Birmingham:England’s batting lineup delivered a dominant performance in the opening One Day International (ODI) against the West Indies, not only posting a mammoth total but also setting a unique world record in the process.
In the first match of the three-match series held on Thursday, England piled up **400 runs for 8 wickets** in their allotted 50 overs — an extraordinary feat considering **no batter scored a century**. This makes England the **first team in ODI history** to score 400 runs without a single individual reaching three figures.
Key contributors to the historic total included:
* **Jacob Bethell** – 82 runs
* **Ben Duckett** – 60 runs
* **Captain Harry Brook** – 58 runs
* **Joe Root** – 57 runs
Additionally, all of England’s **top seven batters scored 30 or more runs**, a record in itself for ODI cricket.
Previously, the record for the highest ODI team total without a century belonged to **South Africa**, who scored 392 runs against **Pakistan in 2007**.
In response to the massive 401-run target, the West Indies crumbled under pressure and were bowled out for just **162 runs in the 27th over**, handing England a massive **238-run victory**. With this win, England took a **1-0 lead** in the series.
The commanding performance highlights England’s depth in batting and strategic dominance, sending a strong message ahead of the remaining matches.
