Eid ul-Adha Likely on June 7 in Pakistan as Moon Sighting Unlikely Today

Lahore:Pakistan’s Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is set to hold a key meeting today to observe the moon of Dhul-Hijjah, which will determine the date of Eid ul-Adha 2025 in the country.
According to the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO), there is a strong possibility that Eid ul-Adha will be observed on Saturday, June 7, 2025. SUPARCO’s report states that the new moon of Dhul-Hijjah will be born on May 27, 2025, at 8:02 AM (Pakistan Standard Time). However, by sunset, the moon’s age will only be 11 hours and 34 minutes—making it extremely unlikely to be visible with the naked eye or even through telescopes in most parts of Pakistan.
Due to these astronomical conditions, experts suggest the moon will not be visible on May 27. This implies that the first of Dhul-Hijjah is likely to fall on May 29, which would place Eid ul-Adha on Saturday, June 7.
This forecast has been confirmed by renowned astronomer Dr. Faheem Hashmi, who stated that moon sighting on May 27 is practically impossible. He added that on May 28, when the moon’s age exceeds 35 hours, it will be easily visible across the country.
In contrast, in Saudi Arabia, there is a possibility of spotting the moon with telescopes on May 27, which could lead to Hajj being held on June 5 and Eid ul-Adha on June 6.
