Public Transport in Balochistan to Remain Suspended Indefinitely from May 18 Amidst Protest by Transporters

KHUZDAR, QUETTA – All Balochistan Transporters Action Committee and All Quetta Karachi Coaches Union have announced an indefinite strike, starting from May 18, to protest against the excessive number of check posts, ill-treatment, and economic destruction faced by the transport sector. The transporters have also called for protests and office closures across the province.
According to a spokesperson, the primary objective of the protest is to raise voices against the alleged unjust behavior by security forces, unnecessary checks, and the mistreatment of staff. The protest will lead to the complete suspension of inter-provincial and inter-district coaches and buses across Balochistan. Additionally, offices of coach companies in major cities, including Quetta and Karachi, will be locked in protest.
The spokesperson stated that continuous mistreatment and delays at check posts have become a norm, causing immense hardship to transporters. Balochistan is the only province where check posts are set up every kilometer, subjecting both passengers and transporters to constant humiliation. The sector is already struggling with rising inflation, unemployment, and insecurity, and the additional pressure from these stringent security measures has made the situation unbearable.
The statement also included demands for security personnel to adopt a more respectful attitude towards transport staff, the removal of unnecessary check posts, and measures to alleviate both the mental and economic distress of the transport sector.
The spokesperson made it clear that if these issues are not addressed promptly, the protest will continue indefinitely.
