China Urges Diplomatic Resolution to Pakistan-India Conflict, Reaffirms Support for Pakistan’s Sovereignty

BEIJING/ISLAMABAD/NEW DELHI:China has called for a diplomatic resolution to the recent conflict between Pakistan and India, emphasizing the importance of de-escalation and sustained peace in the region. In a series of high-level phone calls, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi spoke with both Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Indian National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.
During the conversation with Ishaq Dar, the Chinese foreign minister reaffirmed Beijing’s continued support for Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Wang Yi urged both nations to engage through diplomatic channels and consultative mechanisms to ensure a long-term ceasefire.
In a separate conversation with NSA Ajit Doval, the Chinese diplomat emphasized that further escalation must be avoided, and disputes should be resolved through dialogue. Doval reportedly reiterated India’s position, stating that the missile strikes followed a terror incident in Pahalgam where Indian personnel were killed. He added that India remained committed to the ceasefire agreement.
The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement reaffirming its opposition to all forms of terrorism, including the Pahalgam incident, and called on both neighbors to act with restraint and prioritize regional peace and stability.
The recent tension was triggered by missile strikes from India into Pakistani territory following the Pahalgam incident. In retaliation, Pakistan launched a targeted military response on the morning of May 10, striking military installations across the border. A ceasefire has since been agreed upon between the two nations.
