She Power” Program Hailed as Transformative Step for Girls in Balochistan

Quetta:Provincial Advisor for Sports and Youth Affairs, Ms. Meena Majeed Baloch, has termed the “She Power” program a revolutionary initiative for girls in Balochistan. Speaking as the chief guest at the closing ceremony, she emphasized that the project not only aims to improve hygiene and health standards for girls but also empowers them through education, awareness, and self-confidence.

Ms. Baloch highlighted that girls in rural and underprivileged areas of Balochistan often lack basic facilities, and this project is designed to directly benefit such communities. She said the program includes the distribution of hygiene kits, awareness campaigns, and improved educational opportunities — all contributing to empowering young girls to bring positive change in society.

Organizers informed attendees that the “She Power” project is a collaborative initiative supported by the Chinese government and the Balochistan Department of Education under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Its primary aim is to provide women with essential knowledge and facilities regarding personal hygiene, enabling them to live healthier and more dignified lives.

The program was officially launched in early October 2024, with participation from prominent figures including Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Romina Khurshid Alam, Senator Samina Zehri, Provincial Education Minister Raheela Hameed Khan Durrani, and Ms. Meena Majeed Baloch.

In the first phase, 20,000 hygiene kits were distributed in Quetta, Gwadar, Hub, and Lasbela. In the second phase, on the Chief Minister’s directive, the initiative expanded to 19 districts — including Washuk, Sohbatpur, Harnai, Sibi, Jaffarabad, Naseerabad, Kachhi, Khuzdar, Dera Bugti, Noshki, Loralai, Kharan, Jhal Magsi, Usta Muhammad, Ziarat, Qila Saifullah, Awaran, and Kech — where 500,000 kits were distributed.

Speakers praised the program as a practical step toward improving the lives of women and girls, leading them to a brighter, more dignified future. Ms. Baloch expressed hope that China would continue to support the advancement of education, IT, and vocational training for children in Balochistan. She also praised Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti for promoting gender equality by launching special scholarships for girls and ensuring job quotas for women.

Under his leadership, a working women’s hostel and other women’s development facilities have also been established in Quetta for the first time in the province’s history.

Ms. Baloch concluded by affirming that the girls of Balochistan are talented, hardworking, and playing an active role in the province’s progress. She stressed the need for platforms to nurture their hidden potential and expressed optimism that both the Chinese and Pakistani governments would continue to take positive steps in this regard.

The ceremony concluded with the distribution of shields and laptops to officers for outstanding performance.
