Severe Cold and Gas Shortages Paralyze Life in Quetta; Sui Southern Claims Called into Question

Quetta — Residents of the provincial capital are facing extreme hardships as severe cold coincides with a **critical gas shortage**, rendering daily life increasingly difficult. Citizens have dismissed claims by **Sui Southern Gas Company** regarding adequate supply, calling them “empty promises.”
In many parts of the city, gas supply is absent for **days at a time**, and where it is available, **pressure is so low that even cooking becomes impossible**. Locals say the situation has worsened compared to previous years, despite repeated assurances from company officials.
The gas crisis, coupled with rising bills, **LPG price hikes**, and electricity load-shedding, has made even basic activities like preparing breakfast a challenge. Hotel owners and small business operators are also facing significant losses due to the shortage.
Residents have urged the government and relevant authorities to **ensure uninterrupted gas supply** and hold Sui Southern Gas accountable for its performance. They warned that failure to address the crisis may force the public to stage **protests to survive the harsh winter in freezing homes**.
