Pakistan’s Effective Diplomacy Thwarts India’s Attempt to Influence UNSC Resolution on Pahalgam Incident

Islamabad: Pakistan successfully engaged in effective diplomacy at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), preventing India’s malicious attempts to insert harsher language into the resolution condemning the Pahalgam incident. India also failed to have the word “Pahalgam” specifically mentioned in the text.
Several days after the Pahalgam incident, the UNSC issued a statement reaffirming that all forms of terrorism are among the gravest threats to global peace and security.
In a statement released Friday, the Council members expressed their sympathy with the families of the victims, as well as with the governments and people of India and Nepal. Instead of mentioning “Pahalgam,” the statement referred to “Jammu and Kashmir” and conveyed best wishes for the speedy and full recovery of the injured.
The members reiterated that terrorism in all its forms and manifestations remains one of the most serious threats to international peace and security. They emphasized the need to bring perpetrators, organizers, financiers, and sponsors of these reprehensible acts to justice.
The UNSC also urged all states to actively cooperate with the relevant authorities in accordance with their obligations under international law and Security Council resolutions.
Additionally, a spokesperson for the United Nations said the UN is closely monitoring the situation in the region with deep concern. He reiterated the call for both India and Pakistan to exercise maximum restraint to prevent further escalation.
