Rampaging Woodpecker Damages Over 25 Cars in Massachusetts Town

In a bizarre series of events, a woodpecker has caused damage to more than 25 vehicles in a town in Massachusetts, leaving residents both baffled and frustrated.
Photos and videos circulating on social media show the bird pecking at car windows and side mirrors with its hammer-like beak, often shattering the glass. One resident described the bird as being around 18 to 24 inches tall, with striking black and white feathers and a vivid red crest on its head.
Sharing their experience online, the resident wrote, “We have a vandal bird in our neighborhood,” confirming that at least 25 cars have been targeted so far. In response, some vehicle owners have resorted to using plastic covers to protect their car mirrors and windows from further attacks.
Experts from Brown University weighed in on the situation, explaining that woodpeckers are exceptionally powerful birds, comparing their pecking force to that of a hammer. Another expert noted that the woodpecker seems to be attacking reflective surfaces because it mistakes its own reflection for a rival bird.
As the community searches for ways to deter the persistent woodpecker, many are taking extra precautions to shield their vehicles, hoping to avoid becoming the bird’s next target.
