Intermediate Exams Postponed in Balochistan Amid Boycott by Education Department Unions

Quetta:The Balochistan Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BBISE) has announced the postponement of intermediate examinations scheduled to begin tomorrow, citing a boycott by various education department unions as the reason.

According to the Board Chairman, a new date sheet for the postponed FA/FSc exams will be issued in the coming days. The boycott was triggered by the controversial and allegedly illegal appointment of the BBISE Chairman, which unions claim violates the BBISE Act of 2019.

Several organizations, including APCA, the Balochistan Professors and Lecturers Association, Government Teachers Association, Senior Educational Staff Association, Watan Teachers Association, and the Junior Teachers Association, participated in a joint meeting held at the Education Directorate. They unanimously decided to boycott both the intermediate exams and the marking of matriculation papers until the appointment notification of the Chairman is withdrawn.

Union representatives expressed strong concern over the appointment, arguing that it bypassed key stakeholders, including the Education Department and the Minister for Education. They claim a non-cadre bureaucrat was appointed in violation of legal procedures, which undermines the province’s only educational board and threatens students’ futures.

The unions criticized the government for its contradictory stance—preaching good governance and educational emergency while making backdoor appointments. They warned that such moves pave the way for future illegality within the department.

It was also announced that not only teachers but also clerical staff would join the protest against the chairman’s appointment. The unions demanded the immediate cancellation of the notification, asserting that protests would continue until the demand is met.
