UK Ready to Partner with Pakistan for Boosting Economy to $2 Trillion, Says British High Commissioner
Islamabad:British High Commissioner Jane Marriott* has expressed the United Kingdom’s readiness to partner with Pakistan in boosting its economy to the $2 trillion mark. Speaking at the *Leaders in Islamabad Business Summit*, she reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to strengthening its strategic partnership with Pakistan.
Marriott highlighted that the UK is a global leader in financial, business, and trade services and is prepared to contribute towards Pakistan’s economic growth. She emphasized the UK’s role as the third-largest economy globally and the largest provider of financial services worldwide. Additionally, the UK ranks second in business services and third in trade services.
“We are here to forge a deeper strategic partnership with Pakistan. Our trade relationship has reached £4.4 billion, and we aim to increase this to £10 billion in the coming years,” said Marriott.
The British High Commissioner praised Pakistan’s young and dynamic population and expressed confidence that with continued reforms, Pakistan could achieve its $2 trillion economic target. She also referred to the recent commendations by the *International Monetary Fund (IMF)* regarding Pakistan’s economic steps, noting that the UK fully supports these initiatives.
Marriott also underscored that the UK is already collaborating with Pakistan in key sectors such as health, education, engineering, and energy. She noted the partnership in projects like *Reko Diq* and mentioned the UK’s role in tackling climate change challenges alongside Pakistan.
On economic reforms, the High Commissioner revealed that the UK is working through a *$45 million program* to promote *macroeconomic development* in Pakistan. She further highlighted UK’s efforts in advancing reforms and investments in Pakistan’s power sector, particularly in clean and green energy.
In conclusion, Jane Marriott thanked *Azfar Ahsan*, the organizer of the summit, for gathering global experts and leaders under one roof to foster a positive dialogue aimed at securing a brighter future for Pakistan.
