National Assembly Session Adjourned Until Monday Due to Lack of Quorum
Speaker Criticizes Opposition Member for Disrupting Proceedings

Islamabad: The National Assembly session was adjourned until Monday, April 14, 2025, at 4 PM due to a lack of quorum. The session, chaired by Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq on Friday, faced interruption when Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) member Iqbal Afridi pointed out the absence of a quorum.
Expressing his frustration, Speaker Ayaz Sadiq accused the opposition of preventing the House from conducting its business. A headcount was initiated, but the required number of members was not met, prompting a 30-minute break.
Opposition member Hamid Raza remarked that a discussion on the Palestine issue was scheduled for the day and attempted to dissuade his own party colleague from raising the quorum issue.
Speaker Sadiq noted that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) had submitted a resolution on the canals issue on April 7, which was already discussed in the House by several members. However, the opposition staged a walkout during the session. According to the Speaker, the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) did not participate in the walkout.
He emphasized that if members wish to debate on issues such as the canal system, they must remain present in the House. “You simply don’t want the House to function,” he stated, highlighting that this was the second consecutive day the session was disrupted due to a quorum call — both times when important questions from the opposition were scheduled during the question hour.
Due to the continued lack of quorum, the session was adjourned until Monday.
