Pressure Groups in PTI: Shair Afzal Marwat’s Major Revelation

Islamabad: Member of National Assembly Shair Afzal Marwat has revealed that there are three pressure groups within the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), with a significant role being played by PTI’s social media wing, which presents its own narrative.
In an interview with a private TV channel, Shair Afzal Marwat stated that there are currently three major pressure groups in PTI. The first group is the media, specifically PTI’s media, including YouTubers, who shape narratives to make money, but the cost of this media’s actions is borne by PTI and its leader, Imran Khan, in Pakistan. He emphasized that media plays a significant role in fostering discord and division within PTI.
The second important group, according to Marwat, is the leadership from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), who, due to ethnic tensions, are being targeted by people from Punjab. He highlighted that PTI’s organizational structure in KP is strong, while in the other three provinces, the party’s organizational presence is minimal.
On the topic of negotiations with the establishment, Marwat shared that PTI and the establishment had engaged in talks three times, but PTI failed to capitalize on these opportunities. He mentioned that while PTI still hopes for negotiations with the establishment, the latter has not shown seriousness in the matter this time.
Regarding the narrative that former Speaker Asad Qaiser is a conspirator, Marwat disagreed, stating that he did not agree with this claim. He described Asad Qaiser as a close friend and noted that the internal party differences had been present even before the elections, partly due to decisions made by Imran Khan, such as removing Ali Amin Gandapur from the provincial presidency without consulting him.
Marwat further explained that Ali Amin Gandapur’s position had weakened in KP, where organizational decisions were being made to marginalize him. He alleged that efforts were being made to damage Gandapur’s reputation and political standing.
When asked about the potential threat to the position of KP’s Chief Minister, Marwat remarked that in PTI, anything can happen at any time. He pointed out that PTI makes decisions based on whispers and that leaders may find themselves in and out of positions unexpectedly, as Imran Khan often makes decisions that no one anticipates.
Finally, on rejoining PTI, Marwat stated that it would depend on Imran Khan and the party, but for now, he enjoys freedom from legal cases and police raids, which allows him to move around freely. He expressed hope that this situation would continue for a longer period.
