Pakistan Warns of Risks Posed by Military Use of AI at UN Disarmament Commission Debate

Pakistan has expressed serious concerns at the United Nations about the potential dangers posed by the military use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), warning that it could trigger a new arms race.

Speaking at the UN Disarmament Commission debate, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, urged the international community to prevent AI from becoming a new arena for weapons competition.

He emphasized that the use of AI in military settings could lead to the initiation of new arms races and destabilize both regional and global security environments.

Highlighting the broader implications, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad pointed out that the rise of AI in military contexts could have deep and lasting effects on global peace and security. He stressed that nuclear disarmament should remain a top priority to ensure a safer future for all nations.

Pakistan’s call underscores the growing need for global cooperation in regulating emerging technologies to prevent their misuse in warfare.
