Roof Collapse at Dominican Republic Nightclub Leaves 98 Dead, Including Governor and Former Baseball Star

In a tragic incident in the Dominican Republic, the roof of a nightclub collapsed in the capital, Santo Domingo, resulting in the deaths of at least 98 people and injuring over 150 others.

According to the BBC, the incident occurred early Tuesday morning during a concert by renowned singer Ruby Pérez at the nightclub. Among the deceased were Nelcy Cruz, the governor of Monte Cristi province, and former Major League Baseball player Octavio Dotel.

At the time of the collapse, hundreds of people were inside the nightclub, and many were trapped under the rubble. Rescue operations are ongoing, with authorities expressing concerns that the death toll could rise as more victims are uncovered. However, the director of the Emergency Operations Center remains hopeful that some individuals may still be alive under the debris.

The President of the Dominican Republic has expressed deep sorrow and sympathy to the affected families in response to this heartbreaking event. The investigation into the cause of the collapse is also underway.
