Wasim Akram Clarifies “Joke” About Legal Case with Mushtaq Ahmed, Urges Public to Avoid Fake News

Former Pakistan cricket captain and swing bowling legend Wasim Akram has clarified recent comments made regarding a video posted by former teammate and current Bangladesh bowling coach Mushtaq Ahmed. Akram stated that no legal case was being filed against Mushtaq Ahmed, and the video in question was part of a joke. Akram explained that he had asked Mushtaq Ahmed to make the video, which was intended as humor, but people mistakenly took it seriously.

Akram further mentioned that the media had spread this news without verifying its authenticity. He urged the public not to believe fake news and to double-check the information before accepting it as true. He added that some individuals had even contacted Mushtaq Ahmed’s lawyer, claiming they would fight his case for free.

In response to Akram’s clarification, social media users offered mixed reactions. One user suggested that the program was going well, and such unnecessary drama was only for increasing viewership and interest, a move commonly referred to as “chasing after the flying arrow” in local parlance.

The controversy began when Mushtaq Ahmed released a video in which he accused Wasim Akram and former Pakistan bowler Waqar Younis of harassment, claiming they had ruined his career. He announced plans to take legal action, including sending legal notices for defamation, with a 20-crore claim against Waqar Younis and a 15-crore claim against Wasim Akram. Mushtaq also alleged that Akram had taken him under the pretense of giving him practice, only to bowl bouncers at him, which caused him to lose confidence. Mushtaq claimed that had it not been for this, he could have become one of Pakistan’s best all-rounders.

In response, Wasim Akram shot back with criticism, stating that Mushtaq Ahmed was never suited for the role of a “night watchman” and that he had consistently failed whenever given the opportunity. He further stated that they would meet in court to resolve the matter.
