Mahmood Khan Achakzai Calls for Unity, Criticizes Government and Political Manipulations

Quetta:Chairman of Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party and leader of the Pakistan Constitution Protection Movement, Mahmood Khan Achakzai, has strongly criticized the current government, calling it an “illegitimate force” and emphasized the need for unity and collaboration to resolve the country’s issues. He also commented on political manipulations and suggested the need for fair elections to resolve the political turmoil.*
In a special interview with a private TV channel, Achakzai expressed his frustration over the political situation, stating, “We are stuck in a political quagmire, and we need unity and consensus to get out of this crisis.” He clarified that he had always supported people who upheld the Constitution, regardless of which political party was in power. He expressed his opposition to any political setup that intended to replace one leader with another without the public’s consent, stating, “If the purpose of the PDM (Pakistan Democratic Movement) is to remove Imran Khan and replace him with someone else, I will not be a part of it.”
Achakzai further criticized political parties that sabotaged democratic processes whenever they came together, mentioning that corruption and mismanagement were causing the country’s downfall. He also pointed out that anyone who undermines the Constitution should face consequences, saying, “Those who tamper with the Constitution are dangerous, and people have the right to rebel against them.”
The political leader continued by questioning the legitimacy of the current government, referring to it as an “illegitimate occupying force” and questioned the possibility of negotiations under such circumstances. He condemned the incidents of May 9 and November 26, noting the government’s failure to address them fairly, and suggested the formation of a judicial commission with an impartial approach.
Achakzai also reflected on his political journey, mentioning that he had always stood by those who respected the Constitution, including supporting Benazir Bhutto during her time, even though he disagreed with certain actions. He emphasized that the country could only progress if there was a clear commitment to constitutional supremacy, free and fair elections, and an independent Election Commission.
Criticizing the government’s handling of corruption and its failure to deliver basic services to the public, Achakzai stated that the country was on the brink of collapse due to mismanagement and that urgent reforms were needed to save Pakistan from further deterioration. He specifically urged for accountability, stating, “This country is sinking due to our corruption and mismanagement.”
In his remarks, Achakzai also mentioned that he was not against any individual leader but was focused on ensuring the supremacy of the Constitution and the development of Pakistan. He expressed support for the idea that if elections were held fairly, the country could recover, but stressed that the political leadership needed to prioritize constitutional governance.
Lastly, Achakzai called for the immediate release of Imran Khan, stating that his prolonged imprisonment was only making him more influential and that it was in the best interest of the country to resolve political issues with fairness and respect for the Constitution. He appealed to the military leadership to show restraint and allow Pakistan’s democratic institutions to function properly, saying, “General officers, please show mercy to this country.”
