AJK Government Begins Implementing Free Electricity for Mosques, Funds Released

The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) government has initiated the provision of free electricity for mosques, implementing its decision to offer 200 units of electricity free of charge. As part of this initiative, the government has released funds amounting to PKR 94.79 million for the payment of electricity bills for mosques across the region.
The AJK government had previously announced last year that electricity bills for mosques would be waived for the first 200 units. Now, the implementation of this decision has officially begun. The Ministry of Religious Affairs has been allocated these funds to cover the electricity expenses of mosques.
It is important to note that the initiative covers only those mosques with functioning electricity meters. The electricity bills for the first 200 units of each mosque will be paid by the government, while any additional units consumed beyond 200 will be the responsibility of the mosque management.
This decision follows a motion by AJK’s Minister for Information, Peer Mazhar Saeed Shah, and was approved by Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwarul Haq. This move aims to alleviate the financial burden on mosques and promote better access to electricity for religious institutions in the region.
