Pakistani Man Falls Victim to Online Fraud After Dream Job Offer

Islamabad:The desire to make money is a common ambition, but when it turns into an obsession, some individuals may find themselves looking for shortcuts to wealth. A Pakistani citizen recently shared his experience of trying to earn money online, which ultimately led to a costly lesson in fraud.

The man, who chose to remain anonymous, explained that his journey began with a message from an Indian company via the social media app Telegram. The company offered him a “test task” where he was asked to open a link within three minutes, add items to a shopping cart, and send a screenshot as proof. After completing the task successfully, he received a congratulatory message and was told that he had become a temporary employee of the company.

The man described how he felt as if his dream was coming true when he started receiving assignments through the Telegram group. The group was filled with other people who praised the company after receiving payments, making it seem like a legitimate opportunity. He enjoyed the convenience of working from home without ever having to leave.

After one month, the company asked for his bank account number to send his first month’s salary. He received 20,000 Pakistani rupees, which seemed to confirm the company’s credibility. Encouraged by this, the company then offered him a permanent membership, asking him to send one lakh rupees as a security deposit, promising that it would be refunded upon leaving the company. The offer seemed enticing, with the potential to earn even more by becoming a permanent member.

Believing the offer to be genuine, the man sent the requested one lakh rupees and began dreaming of a brighter future. However, after the payment was made, the company blocked him from all communication channels, including Telegram, WhatsApp, and email. It became clear that he had fallen victim to a scam, and the company had stolen 80,000 rupees from him after initially sending 20,000 rupees.

Although the man has yet to file a formal complaint, he is contemplating whether to pursue legal action. He urges others to be cautious when dealing with online job offers, especially those that seem too good to be true.
