Playing with Citizens’ Health: Administration Wakes Up After Social Media Exposure; Unit Producing Toxic Oil from Waste Sealed in Kuchlak

QUETTA (Daily Qudrat Quetta) – The Balochistan Food Authority, acting on a complaint received on social media, has sealed a unit in Kuchlak that extracted oil from animal waste. According to the Balochistan Food Authority, a complaint was received on social media that oil extracted from animal remains was being used for cooking, which is extremely harmful to human health.
On the complaint, under the directives of Food Authority Chairman Noor Muhammad Domar, a special team under the supervision of Director Operations Kashif Zubair raided the said unit located in Kuchlak.
During the inspection, the team observed that oil was being extracted from animal waste at the unit and that a mincing process was also underway there. The team asked the owners for documented records relating to the processing, supply and use of the oil.
The unit owners took the position that this oil is supplied to a soap-making factory; however, they failed to produce any documentary evidence in support of this claim.
Due to the suspicious activity and absence of records, the team sealed the unit under Section 13(1)(c) of the Balochistan Food Authority Act 2014.
