Criminal Negligence of Provincial Government Over Wheat and Flour Crisis; Food Department Has Neither Funds Nor Any Plan: Flour Mills Association Balochistan

Other Provinces Have Made Arrangements While Government Apathy in Balochistan Is at Its Peak: Abdul Wahid Barech

QUETTA (Daily Qudrat Quetta) – Chairman of the Balochistan Flour Mills Association Abdul Wahid Barech, while strongly criticizing the government’s negligence and lack of attention over the serious flour and wheat crisis in the province, has said that making flour cheap and within the reach of the common man in Balochistan is the government’s responsibility, but the provincial government does not appear serious at all in this matter, due to which the poor people have been deprived of the facility of cheap flour. Comparing other provinces, he said that all the other provinces are making better arrangements for wheat at their own level and are bringing wheat from outside, while Balochistan is the only province that is neither buying wheat itself nor providing any kind of relief to the people.

He further said that in the distribution of imported wheat by the government, Punjab, Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have been given a share, but Balochistan has been kept completely deprived of it. According to the Flour Mills Association, the provincial Food Department has neither the funds required to buy wheat nor any proper plan to deal with this crisis. Until the provincial government provides funds and permission to the Food Department and wheat prices become cheap, the crisis cannot be ended. The association has strongly demanded that the provincial government immediately ensure the supply of wheat through PASSCO and other sources so that relief can be provided to the poor people of Balochistan in the current era of inflation.
