By-Elections for Local Government Seats in Seven Districts of Balochistan to Be Held Today

QUETTA: By-elections for vacant local government seats will be held today, August 3, in seven districts of Balochistan. The districts—Zhob, Sherani, Loralai, Barkhan, Kalat, Khuzdar, and Surrab—are holding by-polls for various seats that have become vacant over the past year due to various reasons.

A total of 25 candidates are competing for 16 seats, with 106 general councilors eligible to vote. Polling will take place from 8 AM to 4 PM today. The seats include:

* 6 vacant seats for women, with 15 candidates running.
* 2 vacant seats for labor representatives, with 4 candidates.
* 1 vacant seat for farmers, with 3 candidates.
* 7 vacant seats for non-Muslim representatives, with 3 candidates.

It’s worth noting that local government elections for Balochistan’s 32 districts were conducted on May 29, 2022. According to the provincial local government laws, by-elections for vacant seats in the local bodies are held annually.

The elections today are significant for the political landscape of Balochistan, as the results could impact local governance and representation in the province.
