Woman Offloaded at Karachi Airport Over Alleged Links to Cambodia-Based Online Fraud Network
ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Immigration Wing at Karachi Airport has offloaded a woman passenger bound for Sri Lanka after questioning her over suspected links to an international online fraud network allegedly operating from Cambodia.
According to an FIA spokesperson, the passenger was identified as Fatima Sajid, daughter of Sajid Waheed and a resident of Lahore. She was stopped for detailed questioning after immigration officials found her travel circumstances suspicious.
During the inquiry, the woman reportedly disclosed that she had previously worked for an online scamming network in Cambodia operated by Chinese nationals. She claimed that she was lured with the promise of a job and paid Rs200,000 to agents, while the same group arranged her visa and travel tickets.
The FIA said the woman admitted that the network used a fake “Ali Express” platform and the messaging application Telegram to allegedly defraud Egyptian citizens through fraudulent investment schemes. She further stated that Chinese operators paid salaries and commissions upon the completion of assigned targets.
According to the FIA, the passenger also confessed to performing human resources (HR) duties for the organization and recruiting several Pakistani nationals to work for the same company. She said a friend identified as Victor had invited her to Sri Lanka, where she had been offered a job with another company allegedly involved in similar online scamming activities.
The FIA spokesperson said a forensic examination of the woman’s mobile phone reportedly uncovered digital evidence, including suspected links to online fraud, fake platforms, Telegram conversations, and other relevant material.
Preliminary investigations, according to the FIA, suggest possible connections to human trafficking, international cyber fraud, and organized transnational crime.
The passenger has been offloaded and transferred to the Anti-Human Trafficking Circle, Karachi, for further investigation and legal proceedings.
