PTI Stands with State Against Terrorism, But Governor’s Rule Was Imposed Under Its Pretext: Barrister Gohar

PESHAWAR:Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has said that his party stands with the state against terrorism, but alleged that governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was imposed under the pretext of combating terrorism.
Speaking during a hearing at the Peshawar High Court on petitions challenging the imposition of governor’s rule and emergency in the province, Barrister Gohar said terrorism was a menace that must be eliminated and there was no disagreement on the need to eradicate it.
“We are peaceful and stand with the state against terrorism,” he said.
The PTI chairman alleged that governor’s rule and emergency were imposed on the same day. He claimed that 12 PTI members of the National Assembly and 13 members of the provincial assembly had been taken away, party offices had been demolished, and plaques marking development projects had been broken.
He further alleged that the party had been deprived of its mandate and that raids were being conducted at the homes of its members.
Gohar also claimed that certain elements were creating misunderstandings between PTI and other political parties. He maintained that his party remained united and warned that the prevailing situation was generating increasing resentment.
Speaking to the media after the hearing, the PTI chairman said that if negotiations had been possible, they would have taken place by now.
He reiterated that emergency and governor’s rule had been imposed under the pretext of terrorism, arguing that terrorism also existed in Balochistan. He said his party had rejected the federal government’s allegations and claimed that its electoral mandate had been taken away.
Barrister Gohar vowed to raise his voice at every forum against the alleged arrest of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister. He also demanded the release of PTI’s leadership and questioned the reported detention of Aleema Khan, saying she was not involved in politics.
The federal government’s position and the court’s final decision on the petitions were not included in the reported remarks.
