Maryam Nawaz Should Remember Past Political Struggle and JUI’s Sacrifices; We Reserve the Right to Respond: Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri

QUETTA – Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) Central Secretary General and MNA Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri, reacting to Maryam Nawaz’s tweet, has said that Maryam Nawaz should remember the past political struggle and the sacrifices of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam. He said that the benefit of JUI’s movement against Imran Khan’s government also reached PML-N, but today Maryam Nawaz’s attitude toward his party is inappropriate.

Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri said that during the movement against Imran Khan’s government, differences also arose between his party’s leadership and former army chief General (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa, and one of the basic points of contention was Nawaz Sharif. According to him, at that time JUI was told that its movement was benefiting Nawaz Sharif.

He said that when Maryam Nawaz was to appear at the accountability court in Lahore, on the instructions of JUI chief Maulana Fazlur Rahman, he went to Lahore and appealed to workers to gather outside the court. He claimed that due to JUI’s pressure, Maryam Nawaz’s appearance was cancelled. Referring to PML-N leaders Khawaja Saad Rafique and Rana Sanaullah, he said they can testify to this matter.

The JUI leader, mentioning the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) rally in Lahore, said that the hosting of that rally was with PML-N, however according to him, the arrangements for the rally were handled by JUI workers. He claimed that at that time only Maryam Aurangzeb was present on behalf of PML-N while other workers were not to be seen.

Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri further said that as a result of the struggle from the PDM platform, Imran Khan’s government was ended and JUI played a role in making Shehbaz Sharif the prime minister. According to him, afterward PML-N, in collaboration with the establishment, harmed JUI in the electoral field. Criticizing Maryam Nawaz, he said she prevents JUI from holding rallies in Punjab.

He said that when Maryam Nawaz and her family were going through difficult circumstances, Maulana Fazlur Rahman supported them, but now Maryam Nawaz is criticizing her very benefactor. Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri advised Maryam Nawaz to change her attitude, saying that if she continues her inappropriate behavior to please the establishment, JUI also reserves the right to respond.
