Section 144 Imposed in Several KP Districts, Public Gatherings Banned Amid Security Measures

PESHAWAR: Authorities have imposed strict security and administrative restrictions across Peshawar and several districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa following the reported imposition of Governor’s Rule and an emergency in the province.

According to reports, the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) service in Peshawar has been temporarily suspended, while sensitive areas of the city, particularly the Red Zone, have been sealed off. Containers have also been placed at various roads and intersections as part of enhanced security measures.

Meanwhile, educational institutions, including schools, colleges and universities, have been ordered to remain closed in Peshawar, Chitral and some other districts as a precautionary measure.

Separately, Section 144 has been imposed in several districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to maintain law and order. According to orders issued by the district administrations, restrictions have been enforced in Shangla, Buner, Hangu, Chitral, Upper Dir and Lower Dir for 30 days.

Under the restrictions, political gatherings, rallies, processions, public meetings and hate speech have been prohibited. Gatherings of five or more people have also been banned, while the display of weapons has been prohibited and may invite strict legal action.

According to notifications issued by the relevant deputy commissioners, violations of the restrictions may result in legal proceedings under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

The district administrations have urged residents to cooperate with the authorities and comply with the restrictions in view of the prevailing security concerns.

The measures are aimed at maintaining public order and preventing potential security incidents amid the evolving political and administrative situation in the province.
