Pakistan to Include Used Car Regulations in New Auto Policy

ISLAMABAD:Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has decided to incorporate matters related to used vehicles into the country’s new auto policy, according to government sources.
Sources said imports of used vehicles have increased following the relaxation of regulations governing their import.
A meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reviewed the import of used vehicles under both the **commercial and gift schemes**. The meeting was also briefed on recent data regarding used car imports.
According to the figures presented during the meeting, Pakistan imported **2,276 used vehicles in September 2026**, compared with just **48 used vehicles in May 2026**.
Government sources said local automobile manufacturers have expressed concerns over the increase in used vehicle imports, while importers believe the move could further increase competition in Pakistan’s automotive sector.
The government is expected to address issues related to used vehicle imports as part of the new auto policy, with the aim of balancing the interests of local manufacturers, importers and consumers.
