Ending Imran Khan’s Government Did Not Solve Problems, Says Analyst Umar Daraz Gondal

ISLAMABAD: Political analyst Umar Daraz Gondal has said that Pakistan’s current political situation must be understood in the context of April 2022, when the government of former prime minister Imran Khan was removed amid claims that the country’s problems would be resolved afterward.

Speaking during a private television programme, Gondal said that the change in government did not resolve the country’s problems. He said the subsequent delay in holding general elections for about a year was also a significant development in Pakistan’s political history.

According to the analyst, Pakistan witnessed a situation in which constitutional provisions were not implemented, despite an order from the Supreme Court.

He said that on February 8, voters were given an opportunity to express their opinion through their ballots, and the decision made by the people on that day had become part of the country’s political history.

Discussing the current political situation, Gondal said the issue had now moved beyond Imran Khan to members of his political camp.

“Today, they are saying that if Imran Khan’s people’s government is removed, our problem will be solved. With due respect, your problem will not be solved,” he said.

Gondal argued that political issues could not be resolved merely through administrative or political manoeuvring, stressing that solutions should take into account public opinion and the political process.
