Saudi Arabia Plans Middle East’s First Five-Star Luxury Train, ‘Dream of the Desert’

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia is preparing to launch the Middle East’s first five-star luxury train service, named “Dream of the Desert,” as part of its efforts to expand the country’s tourism sector.

The luxury train is being developed through a partnership between Saudi Arabia Railways and Italian luxury train group Arsenale, with the service expected to begin in December 2026.

The train will operate on an approximately 800-mile route connecting Riyadh with Qurayyat, travelling through Saudi Arabia’s desert landscapes and historic sites.

The service will comprise 14 carriages and 33 luxury cabins, with capacity for up to 66 passengers at a time. Travellers will be able to choose tours lasting one, two or three nights.

The minimum fare for a cabin has been set at SAR30,000 per night. The train will also feature two restaurants and a central lounge.

The project aims to promote tourism and offer travellers a unique opportunity to explore Saudi Arabia’s UNESCO World Heritage sites, as well as destinations including the King Salman bin Abdulaziz Royal Natural Reserve and other areas across the country.
