Islamabad Traffic Officer Accused of Misbehaving With Female Scooter Rider During Heavy Rain

Islamabad (Qudrat Daily) — A video of a traffic police officer allegedly misbehaving with and behaving inappropriately toward a female scooter rider during heavy rain on Islamabad Expressway, the federal capital’s main highway, has gone viral on social media. According to reports, immediately after the video went viral on social media, Islamabad Police authorities took prompt notice of the matter and initiated a written inquiry against the officer concerned.

In the video, a female scooter rider can be seen taking shelter under a bridge on the Expressway to escape the heavy rain in Islamabad; however, the traffic police officer is seen continuously forcing the woman to move her scooter forward in the rain.

Eyewitnesses said the woman repeatedly told the officer, “It is raining heavily outside, let me wait a while for the rain to stop,” but the officer kept arguing with her despite this and used inappropriate remarks, saying, “During rain, you should come after arranging your affairs at home.” Social media users pointed out that other male motorcyclists were also standing under the bridge, to whom the police officer said nothing, and instead kept targeting and arguing only with the lone woman.

It has been learned that after severe public outrage on social media and the video going viral, a spokesman for Islamabad Police issued a clarification statement, saying that the Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) has immediately issued a show-cause notice to the concerned traffic officer who misbehaved with the woman and has sought a formal reply within one day, i.e., 24 hours.

In addition, the CTO Islamabad has also issued strict warnings and instructions to all traffic officers and field personnel of the federal capital in this regard, stating that they should deal with ordinary citizens, especially women, on the roads in a polite, dignified, and courteous manner, and that providing possible facilities to citizens alongside traffic laws should be their first priority.
