Karachi Implements New Motor Vehicle Amendment: Vehicle Owners to Hold Ownership via CNIC-Registered Number Plates

Karachi: The Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department Sindh has issued a new notification implementing the Motor Vehicle Amendment Act 2024, bringing significant changes to vehicle registration and ownership.
Under the new law, vehicle owners will now officially hold ownership of number plates registered against their Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC). Two new number plate series linked to CNICs have also been introduced.
The notification further allows vehicle owners to use their CNIC-registered old number plates on a second vehicle they purchase, providing greater flexibility and continuity in vehicle registration.
The department emphasized that this amendment aims to streamline vehicle ownership records and improve regulation of motor vehicles across the province.
