US Military Escorts 40 Commercial Ships Carrying 18 Million Barrels of Oil Through Strait of Hormuz
The US military on Tuesday provided security to 40 commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz, carrying a combined total of approximately 18 million barrels of oil.
According to CNN, the operation was the largest security mission conducted by the US military in the Strait of Hormuz since the war began.
During the escort operation, US forces also targeted Iranian military installations around the strategic waterway. US officials said approximately 60 military targets were struck, including Iranian air defense centers, radar systems, naval assets, mine-laying capabilities and communications facilities.
US forces also claimed to have destroyed several Iranian anti-ship cruise missiles during the operation.
Before the war began, around 20 million barrels of oil passed through the Strait of Hormuz each day. US Energy Secretary Chris Wright said that more than 17 million barrels of oil also passed through the strait on Monday.
The Strait of Hormuz is a critical maritime route for global energy trade, making the protection of commercial shipping through the waterway particularly important for maintaining international oil supplies during the conflict.
