Nepal Flood Death Toll Rises to 162, Hundreds of Tourists Missing

KATHMANDU:The death toll from devastating floods in Nepal has risen to 162, while more than 570 people remain missing as rescue operations continue in the affected areas.

According to officials, a sudden flash flood in Nepal’s Rasuwa district caused widespread destruction, bringing the number of confirmed deaths to 162. A total of 579 tourists are still missing, and search and rescue operations are underway.

Nepal’s tourism authorities said more than 400 of the missing people are foreign nationals. They include 142 Indians, 54 Americans, 34 Australians, 33 Britons, 24 Canadians, 17 Malaysians and 53 Ukrainians.

Several nationals from South Korea, South Africa, Portugal and the Netherlands are also among those reported missing, with authorities continuing efforts to locate them.

Meanwhile, Chinese state media reported that 558 people were missing in Tibet’s Gyirong area following landslides, including 260 foreign nationals. Three people have also been reported dead in related incidents.

Chinese media said floods and landslides caused extensive damage to homes, roads and power infrastructure in the border region.
