Doomsday Clock Set at 85 Seconds to Midnight, Nuclear Experts Warn of Global Catastrophe

WASHINGTON:The world is moving rapidly toward destruction, with nuclear experts issuing a stark warning that humanity is now just moments away from catastrophe.

According to the non-profit organization *Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists*, the Doomsday Clock for the year 2026 has been set at just 85 seconds to midnight — the closest it has ever been — signaling an extremely dangerous level of global risk.

The organization’s Science and Security Board (SASB) said that the threat of nuclear war, a renewed arms race, and the militarization of space have pushed the world to a point where reversing course is becoming increasingly difficult. Experts warned that more destructive nuclear weapons are being developed, while major global powers are once again locked in a perilous competition.

An SASB member expressed serious concern over former US President Donald Trump’s proposed “Golden Dome” project, cautioning that the idea of deploying weapons in space could push the world toward space warfare. The expert warned that such a move could provoke strong reactions from Russia and China, causing irreparable damage to global security.

Nuclear experts also cautioned that if arms control agreements between Russia and the United States collapse, both countries could openly accelerate the stockpiling of nuclear weapons, posing an existential threat to humanity.

The experts stressed that unless global leaders take immediate and serious action, nothing will stop the Doomsday Clock from reaching midnight — and at that point, apocalypse would no longer be just a metaphor.
