Target Killings, Lawlessness in Quetta Raise Questions Over Government’s Writ: JUI
QUETTA: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) leaders have expressed serious concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in Quetta and other areas, saying the increasing incidents of target killings and robberies have raised questions over the government’s writ.
JUI Balochistan Vice President and Quetta District Chief Maulana Abdul Rahman Rafiq, Secretary General Haji Ainullah Shams and other party leaders said citizens were no longer safe, with killers and robbers allegedly carrying out their activities openly.
They said the target killing of innocent citizens in Quetta and unarmed labourers in Saranan was a serious question mark over the performance of the government and administration.
The JUI leaders said the growing wave of violence and killings demonstrated that the government’s writ had effectively weakened. Despite the presence of numerous checkpoints and repeated security claims, they said, perpetrators continued to carry out attacks freely, raising serious questions about the effectiveness of the existing security policy.
They demanded that the authorities take practical measures instead of merely making claims, prevent target killings and bring both the perpetrators and their facilitators to justice.
