UN Warns of Major Impact on Women in South Asia Due to Suspension of US Aid

The United Nations has warned that the suspension of U.S. aid funding will severely affect millions of women in South Asia. The UN Population Fund’s Asia-Pacific Regional Director, during a press conference in Geneva, highlighted that the U.S. is the largest donor for global humanitarian and aid efforts.
The official cautioned that the cessation of U.S. funding will disrupt UN Population Fund services in Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh, placing the lives of millions of women and girls at significant risk. He specifically mentioned that in Afghanistan, the halt in funding could result in the loss of lives of over 1,200 pregnant women.
It is worth noting that U.S. President Donald Trump had, upon taking office, suspended all foreign aid for 90 days. For Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh, more than $308 million is required this year to sustain these essential services.
