UK Minister Tulip Siddiq Resigns Over Corruption Allegations

Islamabad:Tulip Siddiq, the niece of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wazed and the UK’s Financial Services Minister, has resigned from her position following corruption allegations.
Media reports indicate that Tulip Siddiq was accused of being involved in a money laundering scandal, leading to her decision to step down from her post. She held the position of Minister for Financial Services in the UK government.
In her statement, Tulip Siddiq denied the allegations, asserting that, given the serious nature of the accusations, it would not be appropriate for her to continue in her role. She stated that, in light of the allegations, she was resigning from her office.
A spokesperson for Siddiq clarified that no evidence has been presented against her and no one has contacted her regarding the matter. She fully denied the claims made against her.
It is noteworthy that Sheikh Hasina Wazed’s family has been embroiled in allegations of land grabs in a suburban area of Dhaka, Bangladesh. In addition, investigations are ongoing regarding a nuclear plant deal with Russia in 2015, where the price was allegedly inflated. Sheikh Hasina’s family is facing corruption charges amounting to £3.9 million.
The ongoing investigation into money laundering also involves former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, and in December 2024, her niece, Tulip Siddiq, was named in the inquiry.
