Lahore: Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Mohsin Naqvi, has made significant decisions aimed at improving national cricket and team performance. According to details from the National Cricket Academy meeting, Mohsin Naqvi announced that Graeme Cremer and Jason Gillespie will join the selection committee, alongside former Test cricketers Mohammad Yousuf, Asad Shafiq, and the team captain.
Every player will undergo a fitness test every three months. Players will be required to participate in domestic cricket, with selection criteria to be determined by the selection committee. Naqvi emphasized a zero-tolerance policy towards indiscipline, stressing the need for unity and cohesion within the team. He asserted that players involved in groupings will not be tolerated, with strict action planned by the management against such behaviors.
Naqvi also declared that players who fail to maintain discipline will not find a place in the team, with no compromises on disciplinary violations. The PCB head has decided not to reduce the amount of the central contract for now, setting the duration of the new central contract at one year. The performance and fitness of players will be reviewed annually under the central contract.
Inclusion in various categories of the central contract will be based on a structured procedure. A technical procedure will be adopted for league participation during the NOCs season, benefitting players who fully adhere to the criteria. Players demonstrating high fitness and performance standards will be given opportunities to excel, with no room for those failing to meet required standards. There will be no compromise on discipline.
Plans have been sought to upgrade High Performance Centers and enhance coaches’ training standards, with intentions to establish such centers in Islamabad and Peshawar. Greg Chappell and Jason Gillespie will present a final report in this regard. Separate coaches will oversee the Shaheens and Under-19 teams, organizing tournaments regularly.
Mohammad Yousuf, Asad Shafiq, Osman Wahla, and Nadim Khan have been tasked with evaluating the domestic contract setup.
