LPG Prices Surge as Winter Approaches, Causing Hardships for Consumers

Islamabad:With the arrival of winter, the price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) has seen a sharp and arbitrary increase, putting an additional burden on consumers. The price of LPG has risen by Rs. 10 per kilogram, bringing the price to Rs. 290 per kg. In various areas of Karachi, LPG is being sold for as high as Rs. 300 to Rs. 320 per kg, further exacerbating the difficulties of households relying on this energy source.
Moreover, LPG is being sold at Rs. 36 higher than the government-approved price, as the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has set the official price at Rs. 254 per kg. This price hike is causing significant challenges for consumers, particularly during the winter season when the demand for LPG tends to rise.
The increase in prices has led to widespread frustration, as many households, especially in rural areas and smaller towns, are finding it increasingly difficult to afford this essential commodity. The government’s regulatory efforts appear to be falling short, leaving consumers vulnerable to price manipulation in the market.
