IPL Imposes 2-Year Ban on England’s Harry Brook for Withdrawing from 2024 Season

The Indian Premier League (IPL) has imposed a ban on England’s cricketer Harry Brook from participating in the league until 2028. According to Indian media reports, Brook, who was set to represent Delhi Capitals, withdrew from the tournament at the last moment this year, resulting in the two-year ban.

Brook announced his withdrawal from the 2024 IPL season, marking his second consecutive absence from the league. The right-handed batsman cited the need to focus on international matches for the England national team.

In a statement shared on social media, Brook apologized to Delhi Capitals and their supporters, expressing his deep love for cricket. He stated that playing for his country had always been his dream since childhood, and he is grateful for the opportunities he has had to do so. He added that, after consulting with trusted individuals, he decided it was crucial to prioritize England’s upcoming series and prepare fully for them, which required taking time to recharge.

Reports indicate that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officially informed both Brook and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) about the two-year ban. This is in line with IPL’s new policy, which was communicated to all players before the 2024 auction. According to the policy, any player who makes themselves unavailable for the season before its start will face a two-year ban.

The IPL recently introduced this new policy to prevent last-minute withdrawals by foreign players, ensuring better planning and stability for the franchises.
