Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) Announces Protest Against Canal Projects in Sindh

Karachi:The Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) has announced a province-wide protest on March 14 against the ongoing canal projects being constructed on the Indus River. Leaders of GDA and canal-opposing organizations held a press conference in Karachi, warning that the construction of canals could lead to catastrophic consequences in the future.
According to the leaders, projects such as the Greater Thal Canal, Jalalpur Canal, and Cholistan Canal will irrigate millions of acres of land in Punjab, while leaving 3.5 million acres of land in Sindh barren, devastating Sindh’s agriculture.
They criticized the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) for its “hypocritical” stance on the canal projects, urging them to either distance themselves from the ruling government or align with the opposition, particularly regarding their support for these canals.
This announcement follows a series of protests that took place yesterday, with rallies being held in cities including Hyderabad, Badin, Nawabshah, Nowshero Feroze, and Miar, all in opposition to the canal extraction projects from the Indus River.
