Finance Minister Senator Mohammad Aurangzeb Highlights Importance of Digital Economy for Economic Transformation

Islamabad:Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Mohammad Aurangzeb, has emphasized the importance of the digital economy and digital integration as key components for the country’s economic transformation. He affirmed the government’s commitment to improving connectivity and strengthening digital infrastructure.

He made these remarks while presiding over a meeting of the Advisory Committee for the Improvement of Next Generation Mobile Broadband Services and the launch of the IMT Spectrum. The meeting focused on various issues, including a review of the progress made by the American consulting firm, Neera, which has been tasked by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to assess the market, consult with stakeholders, and develop policy recommendations and a roadmap for a successful spectrum auction in accordance with the PPRA Rules and EPA ADS by November 2024.

During the meeting, Finance Minister Senator Aurangzeb stressed that the digital economy and digital integration are crucial for the country’s economic future. He noted that the government is determined to improve connectivity and fortify the digital infrastructure to facilitate the widespread adoption of emerging digital technologies and modern applications.

“These initiatives will contribute to social and economic development across various sectors, drive economic activities, and help achieve sustainable development goals,” said Senator Aurangzeb.

The meeting was attended by various key officials, including Minister for Industry and Production Rana Tanveer Hussain, Minister of State for Information Technology and Telecommunications Shiza Fatima Khwaja, Chairman PTA, Secretary of the Ministry of IT, Secretary of the Ministry of Law, as well as senior officers from relevant ministries and departments.

The discussions are part of Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to enhance the digital landscape, which is expected to play a vital role in the country’s future economic growth and competitiveness in the global market.
