Islamabad:In a recent development, a commemorative postage stamp was issued to honor Arshad Nadeem, who won a gold medal for Pakistan in the Paris Olympics by throwing a javelin 92.97 meters. The stamp was released under the special directive of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. However, Pakistan Post has come under criticism for featuring an outdated image of Nadeem on the stamp.
The stamp, released to mark Pakistan’s 77th Independence Day and titled “Azm-e-Istiqbaal,” displays Nadeem with the Minar-e-Pakistan while he is throwing a javelin. Unfortunately, the image used is from the 2022 World Championship, where Nadeem finished in fifth place, instead of his Olympic performance. Although the stamp commemorates his Olympic achievement, it misses the opportunity to showcase his historic Paris Olympics performance.
Sources from Pakistan Post have indicated that the stamp’s printing and distribution have not yet commenced. The stamp lacks both the price and the inscriptions in English and Urdu indicating Pakistan. It is hoped that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will address this issue and correct the image to feature Nadeem’s Paris Olympics moment, rectifying this significant oversight.
