Ali Mohammad Khan Denies Reports of PTI’s Protest Date, Says Focus is on Standing with Imran Khan
Islamabad: Senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Ali Mohammad Khan has refuted reports claiming that the party has announced a date for a new round of protests. He called the news circulating about planned protests “fabricated.”
In a discussion with a private TV channel, Ali Mohammad Khan clarified that the party’s priority is not to resign, but to stand in solidarity with Imran Khan. He also pointed out that PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja had retracted his resignation, signaling unity within the party.
Khan emphasized that the government will have to answer for the recent events in Islamabad. He raised questions about why the government did not initiate talks with PTI, considering the ongoing political tensions.
Addressing the labeling of PTI supporters as rioters and terrorists, Ali Mohammad Khan argued that it was unfair. He referenced the Islamabad High Court’s ruling, which prohibited protests, acknowledging that PTI may have made a mistake. However, he made it clear that those arrested during the unrest would face legal consequences, though he stressed that they would not be subjected to extreme punishments like hanging.
Khan also spoke about the peace efforts in Parachinar, stating that the provincial government is actively working to maintain order, and that a tribal jirga (council) has been formed to address the issue.
In response to another query, Ali Mohammad Khan confirmed that both Bilawal Bhutto and Maryam Nawaz had come to Islamabad for protests during PTI’s tenure, but the party had not interfered with their right to demonstrate.
Regarding Bushra Bibi’s role, Khan clarified that she is not involved in political matters within the party and is solely focused on advocating for her husband Imran Khan’s release.
