AI Technology Alters Iconic Scene from ‘Sholay’, Goes Viral on Social Media

Islamabad:In today’s digital age, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is making waves, not just for its ability to create entirely new content but also for reshaping existing material according to custom preferences. A striking example of this has surfaced with the AI-generated alterations to the legendary Bollywood film *Sholay*, which quickly went viral on social media.

In the viral clip, AI has made several dramatic changes to the film’s famous scenes. Instead of the menacing *Gabbar Singh* (played by Amjad Khan) cutting off *Thakur*’s (Sanjeev Kumar) hands, the AI version shows Gabbar embracing Thakur. Additionally, Thakur’s hands are restored, a significant deviation from the original plot where his hands are amputated. The character *Basanti* (Hema Malini), originally seen dancing in front of dacoits, is now shown dancing in front of dogs. Meanwhile, a scene featuring *Jaya Bachchan* (who in the original is holding a matchstick to light a lantern) now depicts her holding a cigarette and smoking.

The video, which rapidly gained attention on social media, sparked a range of reactions from users. One user commented that this was a “misuse of power,” while another expressed concern about the potential dangers of AI, calling it “very dangerous.” Some users, however, praised the AI-generated version, saying it was the kind of *Sholay* remake they would love to watch.

*Sholay*, released on August 15, 1975, remains one of Bollywood’s most iconic films, starring Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, Hema Malini, Jaya Bachchan, Sanjeev Kumar, and Amjad Khan in pivotal roles. Amjad Khan’s portrayal of the villain *Gabbar Singh* became legendary, earning him worldwide fame.

The AI-generated clip has reignited discussions on the evolving role of artificial intelligence in entertainment and its potential to reshape classic works in unexpected ways.
