Nothing Changed Beyond Replacing the British Flag with Pakistan’s, Says Aitzaz Ahsan

ISLAMABAD (Qudrat Daily): Speaking at a ceremony in Lahore, veteran politician Aitzaz Ahsan said that little had changed in Pakistan’s system since independence, apart from lowering the British flag on August 13 and raising Pakistan’s flag on August 14, 1947.

Aitzaz Ahsan said Pakistan had not made any fundamental changes to the system inherited from the British since independence. He criticized successive political parties for failing to hold local government elections, stressing that local bodies were not a substitute for any other institution and that elections to local governments should be held.

He said Pakistan unfortunately had accumulated debt of around $150 billion and questioned why the impact of such funds was not visibly reflected in the country’s development if they had been utilized properly.

Aitzaz Ahsan stressed that the people would have to tighten their belts further to overcome the country’s economic difficulties.

He also called for a broad and organized movement to bring about meaningful change in Pakistan.
