‘Is a Celebrity’s Dog More Important Than a Missing Poor Child?’ Asks Hafiz Hamdullah
QUETTA (Qudrat Daily): Former Member of the National Assembly Hafiz Hamdullah has questioned the role of the media, criticizing what he described as disproportionate attention given to incidents involving celebrities and influential figures compared with the plight of ordinary people.
Hafiz Hamdullah said that when a famous personality’s pet goes missing, the incident is sometimes immediately highlighted as breaking news, whereas when a poor family’s child or young person goes missing, their voice often goes unheard.
He expressed concern that the importance of news sometimes appeared to be determined by a person’s status and fame rather than the seriousness of the issue.
“Is a famous person’s dog more important than the child of a poor mother who is wandering from place to place searching for her missing son?” he questioned.
Hafiz Hamdullah said the appeals of poor families often fail to attract adequate media attention, while even minor incidents involving influential or well-known personalities receive extensive coverage.
He urged the media to recognize its social responsibility and give greater attention to the problems of ordinary citizens, particularly missing children and young people, with the same seriousness afforded to news concerning prominent personalities.
